Dustin’s birthday was back in September and his parents gifted him a gift card to Blue Water since they loved the fresh seafood so much. I had never been there and Sunday seemed like a perfect day to use it since we had a big hike yesterday, see our Mother Miguel post.
In order to get to the Boathouse we crossed the Coronado Bay Bridge. The Bridge is an iconic feature of San Diego since it is one of the first landmarks seen if you’re flying into the city’s international airport. Coronado island is best known for it’s military history as well as its famous Hotel del Coronado. The waves around the island are relatively calm which makes the beaches perfect for small children if you are brave enough to drive over the tall bridge or around on the Silver Strand. Historic Downtown Coronado is also extremely family friendly and tourist friendly so I highly recommend walking around and checking out everything they have to offer from local sustainable foods to artisan crafted souvenirs.
We made a reservation the night before through Yelp and were seated relatively quickly with a nice view of the yachts docked in the bay. It was exactly across the street from the Hotel del. Our server was really nice and offered to put in our children’s order before ours, this act made our meal feel relaxed since we had time to feed our kids and able to enjoy our food hot. There were other small children in the restaurant so I would definitely say the Boathouse is kid friendly, especially since they offered crayons and kids menu placemats.
I would definitely recommend checking this place out especially if you enjoy fresh seafood. The seafood ceviche and New England Clam Chowder were some of the best I’ve had yet. Dustin had the Rainbow Trout with vegetables and Mediterranean sauce. I had Cilantro Lime Shrimp salad with the soup. The boys went with classic kids meals like spaghetti and grilled cheese. The Mud Pie was very sweet and perfectly balanced.
